On January 28, 2014, the Embassy of Argentina in Libya visited the city of Misrata, the third largest in Libya, situated 210 km East of Tripoli.
During the visit, the Chargé d'Affaires Mauricio Nine met with the Director of the Regional Office (Misrata) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Libya; with the Director of the Metropolitan Council of Misrata and other local officials; with the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Misrata; with the Libyan Business Council President and with around twenty importers and Libyan investors; and with the authorities of the Free Zone of Misrata.
During the meetings, the very positive bilateral relations between Argentina and Libya were discussed. Topics covered included issues related to Argentina´s exportable offer, to the Argentine potential to attract foreign investment, to the possibility of organizing Argentine trade missions to Libya and visits by Argentine exporters and also missions to Argentina by Libyan importers, as well as to possible visits of Libyan industrialists to Argentina to assess our potential to export “industrial plants ready to produce”, etc.
Misrata is a port city with a strong economic and entrepreneurial spirit.
Misrata officials showed great interest in the visit of the Embassy of Argentina in Libya, expressed their good wishes for the national authorities of Argentina and voiced their expectations for receiving visits of Argentine businessmen, highlighting the potential of the Libyan market for the Argentine products. Libyan counterparts in Misrata said that Argentina was a "natural partner" for the Libyan attempt to diversify their industrial base.
